Last season:
A mixed season last time out for Gateshead that saw them fall just short of the playoffs. The heed finished 12 points behind the last play off spot. The second round was as far as Gateshead managed in the FA Trophy. A successful first round win against Kings Lynn Town. Gateshead then were drawn against Lincoln City at the international stadium.528 people saw Lincoln beat the heed 3-1 and that was where the competition ended for the heed.
Now the FA Cup Gateshead were drawn against National league north Alferton Town. In Alferton the teams could not be separated drawing 2-2. Heading back to the international stadium the teams could not be separated again drawing 2-2 at the end of normal time. It was Alferton who grabbed the crucial goal in extra time beating the heed 3-2 after extra time.
History:
The heed were formed way back in 1977. In there history Gateshead have never been in the football league. In the 2014-15 season Gateshead set there club record for the furthest they have been in the FA Cup. The heed reached the third round for the first time. Just a few seasons previous to that 2010-11 the club set there record for the furthest in the FA trophy they reached the semi finals.
In the current Gateshead side there are a few links too Wrexham starting with defender Jamal Fyfield. Jamal spent a season with Wrexham before heading north to join Gateshead last season. Another link is attacker Wes York who spent two seasons with Wrexham before like Jamal heading north last time out.
We look forward to facing the heed next season.
